Batik

Batik, Card, Brusho ink: Emerald Green, Purple.
(After) Batik, Card, Brusho ink: Yellow,Pink,Purple.
Batik is a process where hot wax is applied to card or fabric using a tool called 'Tjanting'. Wax is applied either by a tool or paint brush to fabric,  Brusho ink or Pigment ink (depending on material) is painted over the wax filling all the gaps on the background. It is a resist technique only when the wax is melted off using a iron. You can repeat this process and build more colour onto your fabric or card. You can create patterns or pictures to be creative. Be careful when surrounded by hot wax, wear gloves and apron. I found Batik quite difficult because I can never get a precise image, however when it goes to plan you can create some beautiful pieces of work. All Batik experiments relate to my fairground project, looking at colours, patterns and images.
Batik, card, dyed with orange and turquoise Brusho ink.
Wax drawing (before)

Batik, Card, layered wax using 2 colours on top of each other (First dye the card and then do a pattern, put second colour on and then melt all of the wax away). Brusho ink: Emerald Green, Cobalt Blue.
